Athletics is an important and exciting part of the education experience here at Fairhaven Christian Academy. We are serious about Godly character at FCA. Sports is a means of developing this character and providing wholesome recreation. There are Physical Education classes from first grade to sixth grade in which students are not just let out to play, but learn skills in swimming, basketball, soccer, wrestling, and volleyball. This teaching and development of character continues through high school in the sports program. The girls participate in intramural volleyball, swimming, and cross country. The boys participate in basketball and soccer.
There are few better venues for young men and women to learn the value of hard work, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship than in the classroom of athletic development and competition. Colossians 3:23 states that in “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” and this is the standard on which we base our expectations. We strive for excellence in all we do, not to lift up ourselves, but to glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the stewardship and use of the gifts and talents He has blessed us with.
Winning and championships are not our primary goals, although they are the by-product of the goal we seek to achieve. That goal is to partner with parents, our school, and the church to develop “Daniels” who will go out into the culture standing firm and confident in their faith and impact the world around them for Christ. This is a mission that goes well beyond any trophy that we can ever put in a case.
